The action has been fairly tame over the last three levels thanks to the 45-minute levels and deep stacks. That doesn’t mean some stack are climbing and Tom Rivers own Raul Fernandez is among the big ones so far. He is up to 290,000 with a few others near but he looks like that top at the moment.
He has a handful of Borgata final table and a survivor win but still looking for his first title. This would be a good one to get him there.

We caught the action at the end of pre-flop betting with one player at risk for 17,200 and Jon Gottlieb at him at risk. The short stack had the better end of a coin flip and needed to hold to stay in the game.
Gottlieb:
Opponent:
Gottlieb took the lead on the flop but his opponent was not quite dead yet with club draw. The
turn changed nothing but his opponent hit a set on the
river. Also, that nine improved Gottlieb to a king-high straight to take the pot, the $100 bounty chip, and move his stack up to 150,000.

We usually expect to see the pace pick up after the dinner break, fresh eye and refreshed systems get the action moving. Event 2 dropped 30 players from the field in less than half a level and they show no signs of slowing down.
They are scheduled to play down to 18 players are 2 am. Despite the speed, the hard stop time is going to get here long before they reach the last two tables.

The Black Chip Bounty dinner break is over and cards are back in the air. That officially closes the books on registration for the tournament and the clock shows 487 entries. That is a nice increase from the same tournament last year and the slow structure drew in the crowd.
Tournament staff are crunching the numbers and we will have the payout and prize pool information as soon as it is available.

The Black Chip Bounty picked up a few more entries halfway through the dinner break and a few of the Event 1 players are taking their payouts to join us.
When they return, it looks like everyone will be chasing Andrew Rhodes at the top of the chips counts. He’ll return to a stack worth 258,000 and in good position for a deep run.

As the Black Chip Bounty event nears the dinner break and we expand our coverage of the tournament, we’ve been spotting some Borgata regulars in today’s field including Allen White and Shashi Ramakrishna.
White has a few final tables here including a seventh-place finish in the $200+$30 version of this tournament last year in the 2018 Borgata Summer Poker Open. Ramakrishna has two tournament titles to his name but they are from Pennsylvania and New York; still waiting on his first in the Garden State. He did make a big run a couple months ago when he finished 10th in the 2019 Borgata Spring Poker Open Championship.

Despite the action-inducing fun of bounty poker, there don’t seem to be too many massive stacks in the room. Andy Rich looks like one of the bigger so far and he can get comfortable with his 170,000 stack. He’s sitting at Table 2 and that table won’t break until they are well into the money.
Tournament staff announced the field would play through Level 8 and take a dinner around 7:40 pm.

The fun part of bounty tournaments is the opportunity to profit long before the tournament reached the money bubble. With a cool $100 cash chip on each player’s scalp, it only takes a hot run to start stacking them.
Eight-time Borgata champ Mike McGuinness is a fine example. While his 70,000 stack on break was not among the leaders, the seven $100 bounty chips (one is his bounty) sitting next to his stack indicate he’s doing just fine this afternoon.
